I understand how to make the resource file and make changes, etc. I'm a little confused on the instructions. Cut and pasted over the existing info that starts with Priority 500, so it looked just like that, and it worked like a charm. I opened the cfg file in the game with Notepad, which comes with any Windows computer. I made a copy of the cfg file first in case I made an error. This will allow you a directory structure of up to 5 levels deep within the mods folder for sorting. (Save a copy of it first.) Edit it to read: To do this go to the mod folder and open the resource.cfg file in a text editor. If you wish to use subfolders to help sort it out, you will have to edit the resource.cfg file. "Just for people understanding, mod folder in the Sims 4 Demo does not allow the us of subdirectores for sorting of mods and recolors. Considering that one cc house could have dozens of files, along with all the other downloaded cc, this would be quite a mess, and very difficult to identify and remove content you no longer want or that may be causing a conflict. I thought I'd share this little jewel of info I found in the comment section posted by Billye Gilbert at SimNation blog on how to create subfolders in Sims 4, since it's currently set up where the player has to install all custom content in the Mods folder. Or, Downloads -> Female Hair -> Peggy Hairstyle -> (and a subfolder for each hairstyle with pics) Or, Downloads -> Furniture -> Living Room -> (and a subfolder for sets, ie, Steffor Set, Chloe Set,Ygg Set with pics) I recalled the early mess of thousands of files in my Sims 2 Downloads folder before I learned I could make subfolders within in it, such as:ĭownloads -> Clothes Male -> Adults -> Casual -> (and subfolders in this one by artist or style, ie SBB, Costumes, etc) On a related note, here is also useful tip on how you can use the mklink command to move the /Mods folder to a different drive if you run out of space.

Update : This is now outdated, see post #89 of this thread. Being organized is a very good thing that leads to a smooth running game and a whole lot less trouble in the long term.Info | How to create subfolders in your Mod (downloads) folder You never know when something will break and you have to hunt down something. Keep all the script mods as high up in the path as you can. My advice is to keep it simple and use as few folder levels as you can but still be able to find things easily. For files that were downloaded as a package file, then they don't usually get a separate folder and just go in the Creator's folder.Īll in all, how you organize things is up to you. Within those general folders, I may or not have another folder which is simply the uncompressed download file name if it downloaded as a zip, rar, 7z, etc. I have folders for all the different object types. Generally though, it's usually no more than 4 layers deep.įor a Painting, the path looks like this: Mods>Objects-Paintings & Artwork>MTS-Creator Name. It depends on how many downloads I have for a given creator whether they have subfolders or not. I combine the site and creator names into a single folder.įor CAS items, the path looks like this: Mods>CAS Clothes-Female>MTS-Creator Name (some have subfolders like undies, swim, etc,) or Mods>CAS-Makeup>Lipstick>Creator Name. I separate my CC by general categories, then by where I got them and creator. It could go deeper in the path but since it gets broken by game updates more often than not, I have it where I can find it to update it easily so I just keep it up top.

Its folder location is Mods>Weebesu-More Columns. Weerbesu's More Columns in CAS mod is just a package, not a script mod. I've never had a problem with them being too deep. It the same for the other script mods I use. I like to put mods where I can locate them easily since most of them get updated with just about every game update or on a more or regular basis. So my advice to anyone using script mods is to read the directions and put them where the creator tells you. Most creators will tell you to put them no more than one folder down. Some will run fine further down the path but some won't. For mods with scripts, with the ts4script extension, they should be as near the top as you can get them. If your file names end in zip, rar, or 7z, you have to uncompress them before the game will even see them.īut to answer what I think you are asking, for files that have the package extension, being several folder level down should work fine. The only files that it loads and reads are package and ts4script files. But if you do mean using compressed files in the folders, the game won't see them at all. you said you tried compressing the cc, I'm assuming you're talking about keeping the file path as short as you can.Information, Guides and Announcements for the EA app.
